Deciding when to see a counselor/life coach is not easy.  There are a lot of questions to ask and concerns.  At Blue Cherries we understand those questions and concerns.  Critical factors we implement in counseling to increase positive outcomes are:

1) Relationship based counseling.  It is important you feel you can talk to and trust the counselor you are seeing.  There is a right and a wrong counselor for everyone.  So your first session should be a test to see that both the client and the counselor are a match.

2) Counseling is about the client not the counselor.  If the counselor is doing all the talking and all the work then there is no growth.  Make sure the counselor is making your sessions about you.

3) There needs to be homework.  The counselors office is a safe place.  One can all most feel cocooned in the office, which is great, however; if you do not try what you are learning in the real world then you are at greater risk to fail.  Try it while you have support and then continue when you no longer need the support.

4) Set clear expectations with your counselor.  You want to make sure you both have the same road map.  It is very difficult to direct a person to the ocean if they really wanted to visit a forest.
